How to Read Your Tire

The DOT (Department of Transportation) date on tires can be found on the sidewall of the tire. It is a series of characters usually located at the end of the tire's sidewall information. Here are some hints to help you find the DOT date on your tires:

Look for a sequence of numbers and letters: The DOT date is usually a combination of numbers and letters, typically grouped together in a small oval or rectangular-shaped area on the sidewall.
Check for a 4-digit number: The DOT date will always include a 4-digit number. The first two digits represent the week of manufacture, and the last two digits indicate the year of manufacture.
Identify the manufacturing week: The first two digits of the DOT date will range from "01" to "52," representing the week of the year when the tire was manufactured. For example, "08" would indicate the eighth week of the year.
Determine the manufacturing year: The last two digits of the DOT date indicate the year of manufacture. For example, "18" would mean the tire was manufactured in 2018.
Look for the letters "DOT": Some tires may have the letters "DOT" followed by the DOT date, while others might have the DOT date without the letters explicitly mentioned.
Check both sides of the tire: The DOT date is usually present on both sides of the tire, so make sure to check the sidewalls on both the inside and outside of the tire.
It's usually towards the edge: The DOT date is typically located towards the outer edge of the sidewall, near the rim of the tire.
